Recently, UN-Habitat and partners conducted a workshop on the improvement of solid waste, and wastewater management with participants from several communities of Estero de Paco in Metro Manila.

Dubbed as the “Estero de Paco Barangay Convention”, participants identified weaknesses and issues with the existing waste management programs implemented at the community level, and proposed appropriate, practical, and realistic solutions to address those weaknesses.

This dialogue was supported by UN-Habitat’s partners, namely the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC), the ABS-CBN Foundation, and the local government of the City of Manila.

In addition, participants discussed roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders in improving solid waste and wastewater management at the community level.

After discussions in breakout sessions, participants came together to draft a list of actions, and delineated accountabilities of stakeholders to improve the existing waste management of the whole Estero de Paco area.
