Members of the indigenous group Sama Bajau and informal settler families of Sitio Panubigon in Surigao City were equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to bring real change in their lives by achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through a day-long workshop conducted by UN-Habitat Philippines together with UN Women.
Building Climate Resiliency through Urban Plans and Designs
BCRUPD made steps to enhance national and subnational government capacities to guide and manage urban growth and green recovery with resilience principles and practices. The project also supplemented existing planning guidelines and develop knowledge through policy inputs, capacity development, and demonstration activities.
The RGHSF aims to be a useful reference for all actors involved in human settlements development, so that they can, together with the government, pursue an action-oriented paradigm shift that will result in safe, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities across the country.
This reference tool provides a platform to equip users with concepts and technical information on urban planning and design for climate resilience. It aims to deliver guidance for national government agencies, local government units, and other stakeholders in pursuing resilient and sustainable development.
UN-Habitat conducts training of trainers to equip concerned government agencies on enhanced tools in planning for resilient communities.
From 2017 to 2022, the BCRUPD project has improved capacities of national government agencies and local government units to promote and integrate urban adaptation planning and designs in their institutional policies and programs. It has also equipped cities to build back better from the impacts of pandemic with its Resilient and Green Recovery initiatives.
In culmination of the BCRUPD project, UN-Habitat Philippines launched knowledge products on resilient human settlements and urban development.
Ensuring stakeholder participation for its climate resilience initiatives, DHSUD worked with UN-Habitat Philippines to bring together various government agencies and the private sector in recent workshops for upcoming policy milestones.
Using resilient urban plans and designs, urban actors around the world immersed in a training to unlock solutions that will address climate related issues like increasing temperature, sea level rise, and flooding in the cities of Cagayan De Oro, Ormoc, and Tagum during the World Urban Forum in Katowice, Poland.
Aiming to sustain its resilience initiatives, Tagum City recently wrapped up its RGR mentoring and catch-up sessions where projects identified by the cities were further enhanced at the project site-level design.
