Stand Up Campaign 2006

Marikina City, October 16 2006 — UN-Habitat through the L-MDGs project Knowledge Manager organized a UN-wide exhibit together with major partners in the Philippines as part of the global STAND UP campaign on October 16.

Stand Up Campaign 2006The exhibit was participated by 6 UN agencies and 9 national partners.The project team was also responsible for organizing the MDG Festival, the national/central STAND UP event which was hosted by Marikina City, one of 14 UN-Habitat’s L-MDGs resource cities.

This day-long event showcased social artistry in localizing the MDG with cultural performance from the Science City of Munoz – Bungkos Palay Dance Company and the Zone One Tondo Cultural Group. The day long campaign also included mass oath taking which took place all over the country.

L-MDGs resource cities were at the forefront of the local campaign: Butuan City participated by gathering local constituents to participate in the greening of the Butuan Historical Park , a park that was established through the assistance of Local GAINS for the MDGs – DGTTF 2005.

Marikina City led the mass oath taking together with UN staff simultaneous with the oath taking administered by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Malacanang. On this date, 2 million Filipinos took the oath to stand up for the MDGs and to end poverty in the Philippines.
