Get local best practices on the global stage—apply to the Dubai Awards by April 20

The Municipality of Dubai and UN-Habitat have partnered to launch the 12th Cycle of the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development.

The award aims to recognize excellence and supports urban practitioners by creating a global and unique knowledge-sharing platform for best practices.

The winner of each category will receive a cash prize of USD 200,000 to be awarded at the EXPO Dubai in November 2020.

The award is open to national and regional governments, local authorities and their associations, non-governmental organizations, multilateral agencies, community-based organizations, research and academic institutions, public and private foundations, media entities, and individuals.

Localizing Marine Litter Actions: An experience-based guide for city or municipal-level localization of the Philippines National Plan of Action on Marine Litter

Aligned with the planning process of local government units (LGUs), it captures the process of developing the City Plan of Action on Marine Litter (CPOA-ML) from creating the planning team, situational analysis and baselining, visioning, capacity development, action identification, until approval and adoption. It provides recommendations for enhancements of existing local policies and mainstreaming into other local plans.

People’s Process in Community-based Plastics Circularity Social Enterprise Development

Developed under the Healthy Oceans and Clean Cities Initiative, this paper looks at how the People’s Process became a significant driver for community-based plastics circularity social enterprise development. It has specifically looked at organizations in HOCCI’s partner cities of Manila, Calapan, Davao, Legazpi, Cagayan de Oro, and Ormoc.
