Iloilo City, January 15 2007 — The L-MDGs project supported the preparation of Dinagyang 2007, the Philippines’ most prestigious tourism festival that is held annually in Iloilo City. The assistance will allow the participation of boys and girls from the slum communities in the city and will ensure the mounting of MDG-themed performances that will be showcased in the street dancing competition. The competition is the highlight of the week-long festival and this will be on January 2007. Dinagyang festival attracts an estimated 3 million local tourists and 100,000 international tourists making the festival a good avenue for advocating global partnership for meeting the MDGs. The festival also generates local economic activities specially for the poor.
