Cities taking action to combat marine plastic litter

How are cities helping combat marine plastic litter and achieve zero waste to Philippine waters by 2040?

Through the Healthy Oceans and Clean Cities Initiative (HOCCI), the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Calapan, Davao, Legazpi, Manila, and Ormoc developed the first City Plan of Action on Marine Litter in the Philippines. They have also demonstrated local solutions on proper solid waste management and plastic waste reduction.

HOCCI is a project that aims to reduce marine plastic litter by strengthening government capacities in localizing the Philippines’ National Plan of Action on Marine Litter. HOCCI is implemented by UN-Habitat Philippines with funding support from the Government of Japan.
